Dhimitude and Apartheid - Lessons from South Africa
Dhimitude is a Muslim term. It means a legal status under Sharia Law. People who do not believe in Islam generally do not know about it, and I first learned about it in a C-Span presentation by Robert Spencer. He is the author of The Truth About Muhammad: Founder of the World's Most Intolerant Religion. I am concerned from what I know about Dhimitude that it is not dissimilar to Apartheid in S. Africa, with Muslims in the position of the Whites and non-Muslims in the position of Blacks. By dint of much effort, and much pursuasion Apartheid fell. At that time, the Whites had a nascent Nuclear Arms program that they put in the hands of the IAEA in order that the wrongs hands did not misuse it. The fall of Apartheid was economically bad for S. Africa, but socially brought an end to an era of injustice and suffering. I am concerned that our efforts for peace in the Israel/Palestinian portion of the Middle East may result in a new Apartheid of Dhimitude for the non-muslims if it is mis-managed. As such, I understand that the Palestinian people shouldn't need to endure sonic booms over their heads day or night, but in speaking out for their injustice I would think that comparing their lot to Apartheid would be a most unfortunate choice of words.
