Total Commander Plugins - AES and DVD Burner.
Total Commander has yet again endeared itself to me. This time, I have found plug-ins. One is for AES encryption - it is not the one for which the NSA has the "special" random number generator. Above and beyond that, 128 bit password file capability, with open Delphi source is a happy thing. Now I can encrypt my thumb drive with confidence that thieves cannot benefit from my data (it's not valuable enough to remunerate them for the requisite effort,) and it is easily retrieved by entering a simple password (I tend to think 128 bit is a little overkill.) The application once installed is invoked by the same pack function on the button bar that makes .zips and .tars etc. This bullet is "aes." The second plug-in is for a CD/DVD R/RW burner, such that I can use Total Commander to do my backups. This pleases me because I have had bad experiences with Nero and my Samsung Lightscribe DVD burner. Either by themselves seems OK, but together they are like oil and water. The DVD burner has to be launched every time Total Commander is re-launched, but stays on until Total Commander is closed. Theoretically this could lead to encrypted backups, but then I have to worry about password management etc. More trouble than the car is worth if I lock the keys in it :-) In the mean time, the app is launched by going to Network Neighborhood button, and double clicking the app (alt-f1 then alt-enter to the CLI crowd.) Documentation is meticulous. RTFM is worth it.
