Comparitive Advantage in the steel industry
Japan was at one time driving US steel into bankruptcy, but US steel came back to compete so well that Europe passed protectionist policies in that regard. This was the source of an embarrassment to the Bush 43 administration. As such, one would expect that either the US or Japan would have the comparative advantage in steel manufacture. In fact, I am surprised to observe that China is buying IRON from Australia aggressively, presumably for their own steel production. I have lost the URL.
