On Flag Burning (now an old issue - best response was in re disposal of them :-)

Back when it was pertinent, My thoughts in the Flag Burning argument were as follows: If a person burns a flag, and holds it has no meaning, such that he is only burning a piece of cloth, then he should take an equally enlightened view to land. He should be willing to accept any piece of land on earth, and freely accept his lot out of Antarctica (or Siberia I suppose.) I do not know if this could be codified, but my room-mate of the time vociferously disagreed with me, such that he said "Burn your OWN flag." To me, that Flag that does not fly in darkness should NEVER be burned... if you view it as your country, then your intent is to burn your country!!! I cannot view it as anything but treasonous. As for the practicality of deporting flag burners, I suppose that it might be difficult, but I suspect that Canada might be amenable.
