An Old expression about cake and its consumption

When the Queen was attributed as saying "let them eat cake" in the 1600s, it made it clear that she did not know what it meant to "have your cake and eat it too." (1500s) My own take on it? It's difficult to "crow" and "eat crow" at the same time! The problem isn't uniquely something the Spanish did to the French.
