ODF is abandoned for a newer format.

I have heard that although M$ agreed to use a plug-in to support odf standard, odf was later abandoned in favor of some better received alternative. M$ went to a new file extention after .doc, and .odf changed to something else, b/c no one was using .odf - they were using Open office to save as ".doc." What I cannot find observed in the news is this: M$'s new format is also being rejected for .doc. I mean, if you had to send in an electronic resume, would you send it in in Word 2007 format and chance that it could not be read, or would you send it in .doc or PDF? I know that Word 2007 has a new extentiuon b/c I installed a student version on my PC one time. I know that ODF was abandonded b/c I saw it "somewhere in the news."
