Frog He Went A'courin' - old Scottish folk song.

Frog He Went A Courtin' is an old American folk song, but most people do not know that it can be used to show profound disrespect to the Office of the Presidency. It can be traced back before the Civil War, when James Buchanan was president. As you know in 1819 Buchanan was engaged to Ann Caroline Coleman but having secured her hand in marriage, he never followed through. Oral tradition has it that he worked in a factory where they packaged fudge for shipping, and that he was the only fudge packer to ever ascend to the presidency. Whether that is true or not, during the Civil War, the words 'not without my Uncle Rat's consent; would I marry the President' could easily be attributed to Ms Coleman, the 'Uncle Rat' being any of several Presdiential aides. The implication is that the President under consideration lacks sufficient moral fibre to realy dig in his loafer heels and bring two feuding parties to the bargaining table. Sadly, it was President Buchanan's mis-management that precipitated the civil war. If a Canadian were to sing it, he wouldn't be whistling Dixie! You laugh now, but if you ever get really sick of hearing someone sing Froggy Went A'courtin', you will find this story invaluable in shutting him or her up! This song ought not to be associated with marriage, but rather with self-destructive behavior.
